The chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, has expressed his determination to establish a new political party in preparation for the upcoming general elections. In an interview with Nikkei Asia on Friday, Khan emphasized his unwavering commitment to securing victory, even in the face of a potential ban on his current party.

Nationwide Protests and Calls for Ban

Following the widespread protests that erupted across the country on May 9, accompanied by a subsequent crackdown on both the demonstrators and the PTI, several government officials advocated for a ban on the party. Rana Sanaullah, the Interior Minister, claimed that banning the PTI was the sole solution, while Khawaja Asif, the Defence Minister, confirmed that the option was being seriously considered. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Foreign Minister, also stated that his party would not resist any attempts to impose a ban on the PTI.

Imran Khan’s Response and Determination

When questioned by Nikkei Asia regarding the potential impact of a ban on his political future, Imran Khan asserted, “If they dissolve the party, we will establish a new party under a different name and still emerge victorious in the elections.” Undeterred by the possibility of disqualification and imprisonment, Khan confidently declared that the PTI would triumph.

Highlighting the unwavering support of his loyal followers, Khan assured the outlet that his base remained intact, emphasizing that national politics had undergone fundamental changes. He firmly stated that the government’s attempts to suppress the PTI through intimidation were futile, as the party could not be halted through the use of force as long as the public continued to lend their support.

Concerns Over Crackdown and Electoral Participation

Expressing his concerns over the continued crackdown on his party, Imran Khan criticized the government’s persistent efforts to undermine the PTI. He argued that if his party’s candidates were prevented from participating in the general elections, the credibility of the entire electoral process would be severely compromised. Furthermore, he warned that such a scenario would lead to further destabilization within the country.

Imran Khan’s unwavering determination and confidence in the face of potential challenges demonstrate his commitment to the principles and objectives of his political party. Regardless of the circumstances, he remains resolute in his belief that the PTI will prevail and continue to play a crucial role in shaping the political landscape of Pakistan.
